3 April 1941: R.A.F. drops 75,000 tea “bombs” over Holland.
Seventy-Five thousand bags of Dutch East Indies Tea, each containing 20 grammes, about 1oz, of thefinest tea the colony produces, have recently been releasesd over the occupied Netherlands by the R.A.F.
Each bag was labelled with the Netherlands Flag and the words, “The Netherlands will rise again. Greetings from the Free Netherlands East Indies. Chins Up”.
The tea was a present from Dutch East Indies Teaplanters who asked the Netherlands Colonial Office to pass it on in this way.
“Never have the Dutch people so gratfully received a gift from the Dutch East Indies, Especially as it is almost impossible to get an ounce of tea in the Dutch shops.” Says the Dutch News Agency.
