Taste of tea with tradition

A tea company here has taken up the initiative to serve tea in bell metal bowls ( baan bati ) to popularise the age-old customs and rituals of drinking tea. Golaghat-based Arin Tea Private Limited will organise the tea-drinking session on Thursday afternoon at its factory in Tetelitol on the outskirts here. Nearly 200 guests are likely to attend the event.  Rakhi Saikia, director of Arin Tea Pvt Ltd, said, "Bell metal utensils are traditionally used in Assamese households. Tea is also served to xatradhikars and bhakats in bell metal bowls, which is a unique custom," she said, adding that this tradition needs to be continued. "We are very hopeful that this small endeavour will leave an impact." The guests will be served sundry varieties, including yellow tea, green tea, white tea and masala CTC tea. In Search of Artisinal Speciality Tea in Sri Lanka

95% of tea produced in Sri Lanka is Orthodox Black tea made by machine, but there is a growing number of artisan specialty tea producers in the country. If this artisan production is met with overseas demand, it’s a sector of the Sri Lankan Tea industry that is sure to grow. In this article, I’ll share with you my experiences sampling a selection of teas from Lumbini Tea Valley and Glenwood Reserve. Lumbini Tea Valley Chaminda Jayawardana, longtime attendee and exhibitor at the World Tea Expo that takes place in the United States each year produces a number of artisan specialty teas under the brand name Dalu which is part of his  Lumbini Tea Valley  company. The teas are grown in Lumbini Valley which borders the Shinharaja rainforest in Southern Sri Lanka. The Dalu collection includes a series of “hand spun” teas, mostly black, that are meticulously hand-rolled into beautiful shapes as well as some of the more typical artisan Sri Lankan teas– Silver Tips and Golden Tips. The product category that includes ready to drink teas, flavored waters and sports drinks, soft drinks, pre-made coffee, energy drinks, fruit drinks and more is a very competitive space, with some of the world’s largest companies fighting for space in your belly. One particular drink in this category saw greater growth than the soft drink market, and that’s ready-to-drink Tea, which grew in popularity by 3.1%, as opposed to the soft drink category which shrunk by -0.8%. Granted, “value-added water” grew by over 12%, but more on that in a minute…  https://teaperspective.com/tea-more-popular-than-soda/

How to Store Tea to Keep it Fresh

If you’re a tea connoisseur, proper tea storage will be very close to your heart, but it’s something that more casual drinkings can take advantage of, too. Similarly to coffee , the quality, flavor and shelf life of tea can vary enormously. With less expensive teas, it’s possible they haven’t necessarily been stored perfectly before making their way to your kitchen, but with higher-quality teas, you can keep them tasting great for a lot longer with some really simple care techniques. https://teaperspective.com/tea-storage-to-keep-tea-fresh/
